Observations From The Broncos vs Raiders 12/26/2021
My Immediate Observations:
- Running game was ABYSMAL. 100% had to be Austin Slottman and having Risner back in at LG? The line was awful today. 16 carries for 18 yards.
- Penalties in the first half killed 2 drives.
- 3 drops on third downs by JJ, Albert O and Timmy Patrick ruined 3 drives.
- Drew looked solid. No turnovers. 68% completion. Balls completed to WR and we took deep shots.
- Defense looked outclassed in the run game. Couldn’t make plays in the second half. The Raider Oline looked dominant…
- Fangio’s decision to punt on 4th and 11 with 4 minutes to play gave us zero chance. The idea behind punting is that the defense can force a 3 and out. But if you go for it on 4th down, you can still rely on defense holding them to a three and out without risking points from the 50 yard line, but you also get a chance to pick up 11 yards and continue the drive…
- Broncos defense got turnovers, which obviously were big time, but never felt like defense could stop the raiders. They had no problem driving the field.
- Broncos return game has zero threat or explosive plays.
- McManus missed another field goal, few weeks in a row, feels bad.
Always going to be a what if situation here… What if we didn’t shoot ourselves in the foot? Make the field goal. Catch balls that hit your hands? Run the ball better than the worst showing of the year, by a mile? If the Broncos escape Las Vegas they have their fate in their own hands, especially with Pittsburgh losing badly, and the Chargers somehow getting destroyed by Houston.
