A Nuggets Fans Night in Buzz City

Read Time:3 Minute, 47 Second

We had gone to the White Water Center outside Charlotte earlier in the day for some Zip Lining, white water rafting, rock climbing and trail runnings before the game that evening. We were spoiled with some North Carolina barbecue at Midwood Smokehouse, before the game!

We flew into Charlotte, from Denver, in the early morning hours Saturday, March 26th. Visiting family but also had our Nuggets vs Hornets tickets ready for the Monday matchup! We were stoked that the Nuggets we’re able to rise above and pull out the W vs another team battling for playoff position in the Eastern conference, while on the road.

30 minutes before tipoff, we got to visit the downtown area and walk into the Spectrum arena, sporting our Blue City Edition and the Flat Iron Red, City Edition, Nikola Jokic jerseys expecting people to talk trash in enemy territory. Not only did we experience zero negative energy, I was absolutely shocked by the amount of Nuggets jerseys we saw on the road.

The Nuggets have historically been considered a small market team, but now that they have an international MVP, two other max contract players, almost 20 years of being a competitive or playoff team, it seems the fandom has began to grow wings! We saw Carmelo, Allen Iverson, Dikembe, MPJ, Jamal Murray, Paul Millsap, Andre Igoudala, and of course a thousand Nikola Jokic jerseys! To my surprise, we walked the halls of the Spectrum Center and every 10 steps you’d see a new Nuggets Fan circling the venue hooting and hollaring to each other!

The Hornets fans outnumbered Nuggets fans by a wide margin, but in the waning moments of the game, after it was clear the Nuggets has secured the victory, and hornets fans began to file out of the stadium, the Nuggets fans had a silent arena to let their presence be known where the empty space was now occupied with strong representation, it filled me with pride to be a Nuggets fan!

The game had some electric dunks, crisp passing, lots of made threes, and a clinic on how to miss free throws… The Nuggets eventually sealed the game behind strong performance by the starters, who had to carry a bad bench unit for the night. Ever single starter had a positive plus minus and every bench player had a negative plus minus and it took almost every second of the game to finally decide the victor.

Nikola had a monster triple double, despite the fact he couldn’t make a shot in the first half and shot 50% from the free throw line for the game. Aaron Gordon carried the team in the first quarter exerting his will on the Hornets, and every other starter scored in double digits. The bench contributed 20 total points, with nobody scoring double digits and the bench unit clearly struggling.

The game was down to the wire, but the boys pulled out a mist win game to keep their hold on the 6th seed in the west as the battle for the 4-7th seed continues to be hard fought! The Nuggets play a potential trap game against the Pacers tomorrow night, as the most important game of the season, most likely, looms two days later, when the Timberwolves come to Denver on April Fool’s day.

That game will likely be the biggest western conference playoff seeding implacation game of the year for both teams with the red hot Timberwolves hoping to get themselves out of the play in position for the 2022 NBA playoffs. And the Nuggets hoping to secure their position as the sixth seed and securing the tiebreaker game between the Twolves and Nuggets for the season series.

Back to the game I actually attended though! The stadium had tons of cool art. Beautiful colors with the teal and purple. Loads of bee hive, honey combs, and wasp related decoration. A ton of legacy players memorabilia like Moggsy Bogues, Alonzo Mourning, Dell Curry, Larry Johnson. Lots of Air Jordan logos around the stadium, and a really cool Pride night event and representation around the stadium for the fan night!

The stadium was pretty neat. The city was really awesome! Both MPJ and Jamal Murray traveled with the team which was really good to see! We had our gripes about how inactive the Hornet mascot felt compared to super mascot Rocky, but besides that, the fans were rowdy at key times, and the energy in the stadium was great! Let’s go Nuggets, get that 4th seed!
